Motorola’s Canopy™ Technology Offers 20 Mbps

Point-to-Point Backhaul for Enterprise Solutions

Canopy System Access Point to Backhaul Link Spans 35 Miles in East Bay Municipal Utility District Deployment

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., March. 11, 2003 – The Motorola Canopy™ broadband wireless portfolio now offers a 20 megabit per second (Mbps) backhaul radio that is optimally designed to offer “last mile” high-speed data connectivity in enterprise deployments.

The 20 Mbps backhaul is designed with the same form factor as the 10 Mbps Canopy solution and provides greater than 13 Mbps throughput. Both also allow for cost-effective and quick deployment.

“We have deployed a 20 megabit Canopy system for the East Bay Municipal Utility District in northern California.  A 5.7 GHz, 20 Mbps backhaul link from Valley Springs to Stockton, Calif., was installed.  The distance covered measures 34.65 miles.  Motorola’s Canopy solution is really phenomenal technology,” said Dewayne Hendricks, president and chief executive officer of the Dandin Group.

“The Canopy 20 Mbps radio is designed to be a flexible solution in enterprise deployments, such as connecting government buildings, business campuses and university dormitories and offices with very high-speed Internet connectivity.  The Motorola Canopy technology is a cost-effective way for enterprises to deliver Internet Protocol connectivity where they need it,” said Tony Kobrinetz, Motorola vice president and Canopy general manager.

Motorola’s Canopy system is based on wireless broadband technology that provides for high-speed Internet access utilizing the unlicensed UNII bands (5.25-5.35GHz or 5.725-5.825GHz). The Canopy system was designed to provide cost-effective “last mile” high-speed data access for customers previously underserved or who live in locations where infrastructure and return on investment previously has been unattainable.
