DanDin
DanDin vs MacWhisper

The same dictation, but for Arabic and on Windows too

MacWhisper has system wide dictation in any app, in its own page words, but it is Mac only. DanDin is on Mac and Windows, and built for Arabic.

In short

We have to correct something this page used to say: MacWhisper is not only a file transcriber. Its own page says "And dictation lets you use your voice in any app", and system wide dictation is in its free plan. The real differences are three: MacWhisper is Mac only (its store page says macOS 14 or newer), it runs local models on your machine with no internet, and its Pro licence is a one-time 64 euros with lifetime updates, which over time is cheaper than a subscription. And DanDin? Mac and Windows, built for Arabic and English, with Arabic as the default.

Pick DanDin if

  • You use Windows, or Mac and Windows together
  • Arabic is your writing language and you want an Arabic interface
  • You want a tidy step written for Arabic, not translated into it

MacWhisper may fit you if

  • All your machines are Macs
  • You want dictation with no internet, because DanDin needs the internet
  • You prefer one payment to a subscription: their licence is 64 euros once
  • You also have files, clips and meetings to transcribe

MacWhisper dictates in any app, that is true and we say it. The difference is that it is Mac only, and that Arabic is a line in a list there, while here it is the foundation.

Common questions

Does MacWhisper dictate in any app like DanDin?

Yes. Its page says dictation lets you use your voice in any app, and system wide dictation is listed in its free plan. That is not where the difference is: the difference is that it is Mac only and that Arabic has no page of its own there.

Does MacWhisper support Arabic?

Arabic is in the transcription language list on its store page, as the 14th entry. But no page of theirs says anything about Arabic dictation in particular, and we have not tried it. DanDin is built for Arabic and English.

Does DanDin work on Windows?

Yes, on Windows 10 and 11 on 64-bit systems: you hold Windows+Shift+D and talk. MacWhisper is Mac only by its own store page.
