Code by voice in Windsurf
Windsurf is now called Devin Desktop, and nothing changes here: talk in your own words, and DanDin types your request into Cascade.
Yes, you can write to Windsurf by voice in Arabic, on Mac and Windows. Windsurf has been called Devin Desktop since version 3.0.12 (2 June 2026), according to its changelog. Click in the Cascade box or anywhere in the editor, hold the start key, talk, and let go: your words are pasted at the cursor. Cascade has its own voice input that turns speech into text, and the table below shows how it differs from DanDin.
How to voice type in Windsurf
On a Mac
- Open Windsurf (called Devin Desktop in new versions), then open Cascade or the file you want to write in.
- Put the cursor in the Cascade box, or in a comment or README you want to write.
- If you want the request in English, turn on Translate to English in Dictation options.
- Hold Fn and explain what should change and the result you expect, then let go.
- Check the request, then send it to Cascade yourself.
On Windows
- Open Windsurf on Windows, then open Cascade or the file.
- Put the cursor in the box.
- Hold Ctrl + Win and talk, then let go of both keys.
- If you say steps, each one lands on its own line and stays in the box until you send it.
An example in Windsurf
A new feature for Cascade, with "What I meant" and Translate on
You say
DanDin types
I want to add a dark mode feature to my React task application. Please implement the following: 1. Toggle Switch: Add a dark mode toggle within the Settings page. 2. Persistence: Save the user's preference in localStorage. 3. System Preference: Automatically enable dark mode if the user's OS is set to dark mode. 4. Regression Testing: Ensure that all existing tests remain passing and are not broken by these changes.
Cascade’s voice input or DanDin?
Cascade, the assistant inside Windsurf, has had voice input since version 1.11.0 (17 July 2025). Here is what Windsurf’s pages (now the Devin Desktop pages) say about it, next to what DanDin does:
| DanDin | Cascade voice input | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it works | Cascade, the editor, the terminal, and every other app | Inside Cascade [1] |
| What it does | Removes filler words, adds punctuation, and can write your Arabic speech in English | Turns your speech into text; the page says no more than that [1] |
| Arabic | Arabic and English, even in one sentence | The pages we read give no list of languages [1] |
If all you need is your speech as text inside Cascade, its voice input is already there and may be enough. If you want filler words gone, want to explain in Arabic and send the request in English, or want one key in the editor, the terminal and every other app, DanDin is built for that.
Where these facts come from
Every cell in the second column is taken from that company’s own page. Here is the text as we read it, the link, and the day we read it.

Good to know in Windsurf
- DanDin writes the request and never edits your files. Cascade writes the code.
- If Cascade’s own voice input is recording, stop it before you use DanDin, so the words are not typed twice.
- After the rename, the app on your computer may be called Devin Desktop. DanDin types into it like any app with a text box.
- DanDin has no Linux build, and none for Windows on ARM.
- It needs the internet, and there is no phone app.
Common questions
Does Windsurf have voice input?
Yes. According to its docs (read 19 October 2026), Cascade has voice input that turns your speech into text, and the page gives no list of languages. DanDin gives you the same inside Cascade and outside it, and writes Arabic and English in one sentence.
Is Windsurf now Devin Desktop?
Yes. Its changelog says Windsurf became Devin Desktop in version 3.0.12 on 2 June 2026, and when we checked on 19 October 2026, windsurf.com took you to the Devin Desktop page. DanDin types into it with the same key, whatever it is called.
How do I code by voice in Windsurf?
Click in the Cascade box or the editor, hold the start key (Fn on a Mac, Ctrl + Win on Windows), say what you want, and let go. Your request is typed at the cursor, and you send it.
Can I speak Arabic and have Cascade get English?
Yes. Turn on Translate to English in Dictation options on the small DanDin pill, speak Arabic, and the request is typed into Cascade in English.
